PT Jobs Arizona Finding Success in Aromatherapy

During aromatherapy treatment, nurses use essential oils to provide relief from anxiety, pain, sleep deprivation, and stress, among other symptoms. A variety of scents are known to cause a soothing effect, such as lavender for calming or peppermint for cooling.
"Aromatherapy is effective in alleviating many discomforts, such as anxiety, as well as minor aches and pains," said Keron Bowen, director of complementary therapies for Banner Estrella, said. "We are using the therapy to support traditional Western medicine. We are seeing very positive results."
Nurses generally use a blend of five oils that are applied during a hand or foot massage or placed on a cotton ball for patients to breathe in. They take great caution to make sure the aromatherapy treatment won't interfere with any allergies or other health problems the patient may have.
